GCT Semiconductor Powers New Huawei LTE Home Modem
with World's First “Double Speed” 4X4 MIMO LTE-Advanced Chip

San Jose, CA – December 15, 2015 – GCT® Semiconductor, a leading designer and supplier of advanced 4G mobile semiconductor solutions, today announced that its LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) GDM7243Q chip featuring 4X4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology powers Huawei’s 4X4 MIMO B5328 LTE home modem for Jilin Mobile, a subsidiary of China Mobile. The B5328 LTE home modem (LTE CPE), recently announced by Huawei, will be first used on Jilin Mobile’s new 4X4 MIMO TDD LTE network and is the industry’s first commercial indoor LTE home modem supporting 4X4 MIMO LTE-A.

“The commercialization of the world’s first 4X4 MIMO home modem on a 4x4 MIMO commercial network is a major accomplishment and revolutionary for our LTE industry,” says Xu Xuebing, vice president of TDD network at Huawei Technologies CO., Ltd., Huawei. “We selected GCT’s GDM7243Q solution for our modem because GCT offered a key-enabling technology, the first commercial LTE chip with 4X4 MIMO, allowing us to create cost-effective modems with increased throughput and data rates, as well as increased coverage.”

“Huawei is a global leader in broadband solutions, and we are pleased to be working together to develop this revolutionary home modem and expand broadband coverage to rural areas in China,” says Alex Sum, vice president of sales and marketing at GCT Semiconductor, Inc. “Following the launch in Japan of NEC’s 4x4 MIMO LTE-A mobile router by UQ Communications earlier this year, we continue to build on the success of GDM7243Q, and are now the key enabler for OEMs looking for high performing 4x4 MIMO LTE-A chips.”

GCT’s GDM7243Q, the only LTE-A chip commercially available that offers 4x4 MIMO capability, enables LTE devices with higher data rates and throughput while using limited bandwidth (“double speed” with the same limited bandwidth), which is a scarce commodity for network operators. By integrating the receiver with four antennas and equipping the base station with four transmitters, mobile operators can maximize the use of their spectrum. They get increased throughput and data rates and increased capacity with minimal cost in new infrastructure. GDM7243Q delivers LTE Category 5/6/7 throughputs with double speeds enabled by 4X4 MIMO technology, and supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and eMBMS (LTE broadcast) as well as other advanced features.
